River Flats, Young Streets, Ageing Pipes

The ground sets the rules

Metford sits on Hunter River floodplain near Four Mile Creek, and the alluvial soil there holds water long after a storm passes. Yard drains and road gullies surcharge in heavy rain because the system has little spare capacity, so a stormwater line that keeps filling after the sky clears is fighting the ground, not just a blockage.

The housing is young but hitting its first big repairs

Subdivisions filled out through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, with the Hunter line station added in March 1995. At the last census the suburb counted 4,707 residents with a median age of 35, and 84.3 per cent of homes were detached.

Two faults come with that stock

The first hot water systems fitted to the 1980s and 1990s builds are now old enough to give up without much warning. The budget fittings and braided flexi hoses from the project-home years start leaking, or burst, as they age.

What We Fix in Metford

Emergency plumbing

Burst flexi hoses, storm surcharge overflows and hot water failures, taken after hours as well as in the day.

Blocked drains

Stormwater and sewer lines cleared with a jetter or electric eel and checked by camera, including the clay-jointed sections still running in the established streets.

Hot water

Repairs and full swaps for the original units, and a loan tank if the new one takes a few days.

Gas fitting

Appliance installation, leak detection and repairs by licensed gas fitters.

Leak tracing, rentals, gutter guards and commercial work are on offer too, each on its own page.

Questions From Metford Households

Do you come out to Metford after hours?

Yes. We are Available 24/7, and urgent jobs like burst flexi hoses, overflowing sewers and dead hot water units are taken at any hour. The rate is agreed on the phone first.

Why do stormwater drains here struggle in heavy rain?

The suburb is low and flat, so a downpour has nowhere quick to go, and groundwater can seep into older drain runs and slow them further. A pit that overflows in every storm may be choked with silt or may simply be overloaded, and a camera check tells you which.
