Gas Leak Detection Tenambit

Gas leak detection in Tenambit finds and fixes leaking gas lines and fittings, done by licensed gas fitters with gas detectors and pressure testing. A strong smell of gas in the house means leaving first and phoning the gas network's emergency number from the footpath.

No smell, just a suspicion? Call (02) 4915 2998 and we trace it and name a fixed figure. It is one branch of our gas fitting work, handled by the same plumber in Tenambit who looks after your drains and hot water.

What Does a Gas Leak Look Like?

A leak can be too small to smell from across the room. The signs that point at the line or a fitting include:

  • A faint gas smell near an appliance or bayonet point even when it is switched off
  • Burner flames that burn yellow and floppy rather than crisp blue
  • An appliance that cuts out or will not light at all
  • A faint hiss you can hear at the meter or a pipe joint
  • Higher bills than the usage explains

Trust your nose over everything else. Even a faint smell deserves a check, because a small leak at a worn washer gets worse, not better.

How Do We Find and Fix It?

  1. 1

    Make it safe

The gas is turned off at the right valve before any test gear goes on.

  2. 2

    Pressure test

The line gets pressurised so any drop shows us the leak exists and roughly where.

  3. 3

    Trace with the detector

The gas detector pinpoints the leak at the joint, fitting or section of pipe.

  4. 4

    Replace, then prove it

New pipe or a new fitting goes in where the old one failed, and a second test holds pressure before the certificate is written.

The finished line is pressure tested and certified, so the repair is documented, not just done.

The Price of a Leak Repair

The figure moves on four points:

  • Whether the drop is at a bayonet in the kitchen or somewhere along pipe buried beneath the floorboards
  • The length of pipe that has to come out once the detector has pinned the joint
  • Whether the appliance has to come out to reach the connection
  • After-hours call-outs, which carry the after-hours rate

Generations of Gas Work in These Walls

The housing here carries layers of old gas work

Tenambit's mid-century brick-veneer houses took natural gas at different times, so one kitchen wall can hold fittings from two or three decades. Worn washers and corroded flare joints in those older points only show up under a detector.

Renovations expose them

Pulling out a cooktop or opening a wall is the moment an old fitting gets disturbed, which is why a pressure test belongs at the start of any kitchen job in Tenambit.

When We're Not the Right Call

The meter and the service pipe feeding it from the street belong to the gas network, so a leak there goes to their faults crew. If the fault is an appliance past repair instead of the line, we name the fault and the replacement choice stays with you.

Before You Ring: Gas Leak Questions

What should I do first if I can smell gas in my Tenambit house?

Walk the household out through the front door, leave every switch and plug exactly as it is, and stand well back from the house. Turn the meter valve off only if the route there avoids the smell. Their emergency crew makes it safe; after that we trace the leak and repair it.

Do you find gas leaks in older Tenambit homes?

Yes. Much of this suburb was built between the 1960s and the 1980s and connected to gas in stages, so worn joints and perished washers are worth ruling out. We pressure test the line and trace the fault with a gas detector rather than guessing.

Is a gas leak repair covered by a warranty?

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. The repaired line is pressure tested before we leave, and a licensed fitter signs the compliance paperwork, so the repair is certified as well as covered.

Do you come out to Tenambit for gas leaks after hours?

Yes. Gas faults count as emergency work at any hour, and we are Available 24/7. An after-hours booking carries the after-hours rate, which is named before anything starts.

When the leaking part is an old cooktop or heater worth replacing, see connecting a new gas appliance.
