What Gas Work Does a House Here Need?

Gas jobs fall into four groups, and every one of them gets tested before and after:

New appliances

A cooktop, oven or heater bought from a retailer needs a licensed connection and a certificate before it can be used.

Renovation checks

Older points behind walls and floors get pressure tested before linings close the job up.

Suspected leaks

A faint smell near a cooktop or heater gets traced with a gas detector, not guesswork.

Outdoor connections

BBQ bays, pool heaters and bayonet points for portable heaters all need proper pipe runs, not bottle-swap shortcuts.

If a job involves gas, it legally needs a licensed gas fitter. A general handyman cannot certify a connection, and an uncertified one is not a legal one.

How the Gas Work Gets Done

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4915 2998 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Test, connect, certify

The line gets isolated and pressure tested, the appliance or repair goes in, and the finished run is retested and certified before we leave.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What Decides the Cost of a Gas Job?

Four things shape the figure on gas work:

  • The distance from the meter A long pipe run to an outdoor BBQ costs more than a cooktop swap beside the existing point.
  • What has to be opened Running a new line through finished walls or a concrete floor adds labour the quote reflects up front.
  • The appliance itself A pool heater connection is a bigger job than a bayonet fitting for a portable heater.
  • The hours A Sunday or late-night gas job costs more, and you agree that before booking.

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

Gas Lines Behind the Mid-Century Brick

Housing age is the gas story here

Most of the brick-veneer homes, and some fibro ones, went up between the 1960s and the 1980s, and natural gas reached many of them years after the frames were standing. That leaves a generation of gas points with a lot of service behind them.

Renovations are when those points surface

The older gas work hides behind walls and under floors that a kitchen or bathroom reno opens up, which is the one affordable moment to pressure test it. Townhouse infill on the suburb's fringes adds a different job: new connections that need certifying from day one.

Testing comes before and after

Every gas job here starts with a pressure test on the existing line and finishes with one on the completed work, so the certificate that lands with your invoice is backed by an actual reading.

When we're not the right call

a gas smell you can notice right now is not a booking. Get people out of the house, do not touch switches or appliances, and the gas network's emergency line is the first call. When they have made it safe, we find the failed joint, replace it and test again.

Questions Before the Gas Work Starts

Do you connect gas cooktops and ovens locally?

Yes. Whatever runs on gas in the house or yard can be hooked up, tested and certified. The price is settled before work starts, so what you pay is the figure you approved.

Should old gas points be checked before a renovation?

It is worth doing here. Gas reached a lot of these houses after they were built, so the points behind the walls have been in service a long time. A pressure test before the linings come off is affordable insurance against finding a leak afterwards.

Can you move a gas point or add a new one?

Yes. Moving a cooktop point, adding a bayonet for a heater or running a new line to an outdoor BBQ is standard gas fitting work. What it costs depends on the run from the meter and how much wall or floor has to be opened, and we name that figure before starting.

Do you do gas work on rental and strata properties?

We do. The tenant is called to arrange a time, gets a text before the gas fitter arrives, and the agent or owner receives photos and an itemised invoice once the work is certified.
