Roots come back until the joint is fixed. This page covers the cut-out work end to end. For the wider clearing picture, the blocked drains hub runs through every method we use, and CCTV drain inspections show where the roots are getting in. The plumber in Tenambit handles the lot.

How Do You Spot Roots in the Line?
Roots leave a different trail from grease or a soft blockage:
- The bowl water sits lower than normal, or the toilet burps when a tap runs elsewhere.
- A drain that was cleared last season is choking again.
- The yard stays damp in one patch, or a slight dip has appeared over the line.
- Wet weather makes every fixture in the house slow at once.
The camera settles it. Footage of a root mat threaded through a joint is unmistakable, and it shows whether the pipe around that joint is still sound enough to clean and keep.

Roots shredded, line proven
The jetter or eel cuts the root mass out of the pipe, then the camera pass shows the walls clean behind it.

Covered for a year
Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.
On a root job the footage does two things. Before the cut, it shows the entry joint and how much sound pipe is left. The second proves the line is genuinely clear, not just draining for now.
What Drives the Price of Cutting Roots?
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.
Four things shape the figure on root work:
- Access How deep the line runs and whether the jetter can reach the root mass through an existing inspection opening or needs a hatch dug.
- Pipe material Old earthenware and clay lines need gentler settings than PVC, and the footage tells us which we are dealing with.
- Depth of the invasion A root mat caught early is a clearing job. Roots that have split the pipe point toward pipe relining or a cut-out, which is a bigger quote.
- After-hours A booked daytime job and a 2am overflow carry different rates, and you hear that in the figure before anything starts.

When We're Not the Right Call
Roots that have broken into the street main are Hunter Water's problem to dig out, not a private drain job. Felling or heavy pruning of the tree itself is arborist work, so book one of those if the tree has to go.
What Customers Say
Woke up Friday to find my two kitchen sinks backed up. … Possibly tree roots from backyard neighbours.
Questions About Root Work
Can roots be cut out of a Tenambit sewer line without digging?
Yes, where the pipe is still in one piece. The jetter and electric eel work through an inspection opening already in the line, so the root mass is shredded from inside the pipe and flushed away. Digging is only on the table if the film shows a crushed or badly displaced section, and you see that recording before any bigger price.
Will the roots grow back into the drain?
Cutting removes what is in the pipe, not the tree, so a line with open joints can be entered again. Film of the line shows the gaps they used, and if those gaps are split clay joints, a liner closes them so new roots find nothing.
Is root removal in Tenambit covered by your warranty?
Yes. The clearing and any repair we carry out on the line is covered by our 365-day warranty on all work. A cut that fails on our workmanship inside that year is ours to redo.
Does the tree have to come down after the roots are cut?
No. Keeping or felling the tree is your decision, and felling is a job for an arborist. The footage shows where the roots enter the line, so you can weigh up whether relining lets the tree and the drain both stay.
If a blocked sewer has already backed up into the house, that is an emergency booking, and a heavy root invasion found by drain jetting is cut out the way this page describes.
