Gas fitter checking an oven connection
Freestanding gas cooker connected in a kitchen

Which appliances do we connect?

Five kinds of appliance go on the gas here:

  • Cooktops and wall ovens, including new ones for a kitchen being redone
  • Freestanding and built-in gas heaters
  • BBQs, including bayonet points for the patio
  • Pool and spa heaters
  • Gas water heaters, which have their own hot water page

Each connection gets pressure tested on the existing line before the appliance goes on, and again once the work is finished.

What tells you a fitting is tired?

Natural gas was added to many mid-century houses here over time, and fittings from those first connections can hide perished washers, corroded flare joints or pipe runs that no longer meet current standards.

A few signs point at the fitting rather than the appliance:

  • A whiff of gas around the bayonet or hose while nothing is running
  • A yellow or lazy flame instead of steady blue
  • The appliance cutting out, or refusing to light at all
  • Visible corrosion on the flexible connector behind a cooker

If any of those show up, the fitting gets replaced as part of the install, and the quote reflects that before work begins. Smell gas strongly at the meter or out at the street instead? Leave that to the gas network, and read the gas leak steps first.

Gas cooktop burner alight

From Booking to a Blue Flame

  1. 01

    Test the line

The existing gas run is pressure tested before anything is touched, so the connection is built on a line that already holds.

  2. 02

    Fit the connection point

A new bayonet, hard pipe run or appliance connector goes in, sized to the appliance's gas demand rather than guessed.

  3. 03

    Mount and seal the appliance

The cooktop, oven or heater is set level, sealed and connected, and the isolation valve is placed where you can reach it.

  4. 04

    Test and certify

The completed work is pressure tested again, the flame is checked at every burner, and the compliance certificate is issued with the invoice.

What shapes the price?

Four things move the figure:

  • How far the gas line has to run to reach the appliance
  • Whether the existing line passes its pressure test or needs sections replaced
  • The appliance itself, since a pool heater demands a bigger pipe than a cooktop
  • Whether you need it connected outside business hours, which costs more

Old Fittings in an Older Suburb

The housing here shapes the gas work

Gas was piped into Tenambit's detached houses at different times, so a kitchen being renovated now can still hide the original cooktop or heater fitting behind the wall. That is the point to check it, before a new appliance goes on.

Houses give the pipe room

Separate houses make up 88 per cent of homes here in census figures, so fresh pipe out to a BBQ or pool heater can travel under the floor or through the yard. Townhouses on the edges of the suburb are tighter, and the owners corporation may need to sign off where an outdoor point goes.

When we're not the right call

A new wall oven needing its own power circuit is a job for a licensed electrician, so book one for that side. If the pressure is weak at the meter itself, that supply side is a gas network fault for their crew.

What Customers Say

Had a gas hot water system installed at my house. Really happy with the install.

Gas Appliance Questions

Do you install gas cooktops and ovens in Tenambit brick-veneer homes?

Yes. Wall ovens, cooktops, space heaters, patio BBQs and pool heaters all get connected here, and in the mid-century houses of Tenambit any original gas fitting gets checked over before anything new is fitted.

Can you convert an electric cooktop to gas?

If a gas line already reaches the kitchen, yes. If not, we quote running a new line first, and the figure covers the pipe run, the connection point and the compliance certificate.

Is the gas work certified?

Every completed job is pressure tested and issued with a gas compliance certificate, which your insurer or a future buyer may ask to see.

Do you work on rentals and strata properties here?

We do. The tenant hears from us to lock in a time and again before the fitter pulls up, and the owner or agent gets photos, the compliance certificate and an itemised invoice.
